½ teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
¼ teaspoon black pepper
Salt to taste
A pinch of dried thyme or rosemary (optional)
For the eggs
4 large eggs
1 teaspoon butter or a little oil
Salt and black pepper to taste
For the bacon
1 teaspoon butter or a little oil
Salt and black pepper to taste
For the bacon
6 slices of bacon
Alternatively, use halal beef bacon or smoked beef strips.
Optional serving ingredients
Fresh chopped parsley
Toasted bread
Grated cheese
Fresh tomatoes or avocado
Coffee, tea, or orange juice
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the potatoes
Wash the potatoes and peel them if desired.
Cut them into small, evenly sized cubes.
Bring a pot of water to a boil and cook the potatoes for 5–7 minutes, until slightly tender but not falling apart.
Drain thoroughly and pat dry with a clean kitchen towel.
Dry potatoes will become much crispier when fried.
Step 2: Fry the potatoes
Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Add the dried potato cubes in a single layer.
Season with paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
Let them cook undisturbed for 4–5 minutes so they develop a golden crust.
Turn them occasionally and continue cooking for 15–20 minutes, until golden brown and crispy on the outside and tender inside.
Tip: Avoid overcrowding the pan, and don’t stir the potatoes too frequently.
Step 3: Cook the bacon
Heat a separate skillet over medium heat.
Add the bacon slices without adding much extra oil.
Cook for approximately 3–5 minutes per side, depending on their thickness and type.
Once browned and crispy, transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess grease.
Cooking times vary, so cook until the bacon is thoroughly done.
Step 4: Fry the eggs
Melt the butter in a skillet over medium-low heat.
Carefully crack the four eggs into the pan.
Season with salt and black pepper.
Cook for 2–4 minutes, until the egg whites are set.
For fully cooked eggs, continue cooking until both the whites and yolks are firm.
Step 5: Assemble and serve
Arrange the crispy potatoes on one side of a plate.
Place the fried eggs beside them.
Add the crispy bacon strips.
Sprinkle with fresh parsley or extra black pepper, if desired.
Serve immediately while everything is hot.
Chef’s tips for the perfect breakfast
Extra-crispy potatoes: Dry them thoroughly after boiling and before frying.
More flavor: Use a little reserved bacon fat to fry the potatoes.
Perfect eggs: Cook over medium-low heat to prevent the edges from burning.
Save time: Prepare the potatoes first and cook the eggs just before serving.
Make it halal: Choose certified halal beef bacon instead of pork bacon.
