Ingredients

For the Butterscotch Base:

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease two large rectangular glass baking dishes.
  2. Prepare the Butterscotch Base:
    In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir in the brown sugar, heavy cream, vanilla extract, and salt. Continue stirring until the mixture is smooth and slightly thickened. Remove from heat.
  3. Pour the Butterscotch Base:
    Divide the butterscotch sauce evenly between the two prepared baking dishes.
  4. Make the Cream Cheese Dumplings:
    In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
    In a separate bowl, blend the softened cream cheese, milk, sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
    Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  5. Form the Dumplings:
    Drop spoonfuls of the dumpling batter over the butterscotch base, spacing them evenly apart.
  6. Bake:
    Pour the melted butter evenly over the dumplings. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until the dumplings are golden and fully cooked.
  7. Serve:
