🧈 Fluffy Buttermilk Biscuits Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons (85g) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3/4 cup (180ml) cold buttermilk
  • Optional: 1–2 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C). Lightly grease a round baking pan or line with parchment paper.
  2. Mix dry ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cut in butter
Add cold cubed butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work it in until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs (pea-sized bits).
  4. Add buttermilk
Pour in the cold buttermilk and stir until a shaggy dough forms. Do not overmix.
  5. Fold for layers
Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Gently knead and fold it over itself 3–4 times to create flaky layers.
  6. Cut the biscuits
Pat the dough to about 1-inch thickness. Use a round cutter to cut biscuits. Avoid twisting the cutter.
  7. Bake
Place biscuits close together in the pan for soft sides or spaced apart for crispier edges. Bake for 12–15 minutes until golden on top.
  8. Brush with butter (optional)
Remove from the oven and immediately brush the tops with melted butter.

🔥 Tips for Success:

  • Cold ingredients are key. Chill the butter and buttermilk until ready to use.
  • Do not overwork the dough – this keeps them tender.
  • Bake close together for a pull-apart, soft texture like in your image.
