🧀 Au Gratin Potatoes
Ingredients:
* 4 large russet potatoes, thinly sliced
* 3 tbsp butter
* 1 small onion, finely chopped
* 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
* 2 cups whole milk
* 2 cups sharp Cheddar cheese, shredded
* Salt, to taste
* Pepper, to taste
Directions:
1. **Preheat Oven:**
Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
2. **Make Cheese Sauce:**
In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter and add chopped onion. Sauté for 4-5 minutes until soft.
Sprinkle flour over onions and stir continuously for 1-2 minutes until smooth.
Gradually whisk in milk, stirring constantly until sauce thickens.
Add half of the shredded cheese and stir until melted and smooth. Season with salt and pepper.
3. **Assemble:**
Grease a baking dish. Layer the thinly sliced potatoes evenly in the dish.
Pour cheese sauce over the potatoes. Sprinkle remaining cheese on top.
4. **Bake:**
Cover with foil and bake for 60 minutes.
Remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until cheese is golden and bubbly, and potatoes are tender.
