🧆 Baked Meatball & Potato Casserole Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 500g (1 lb) ground beef or lamb
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2–3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tsp paprika (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 3–4 medium potatoes, peeled and sliced (about ½-inch thick slices)
  • 1–2 cups grated mozzarella cheese (or your favorite melting cheese)
  • 1 cup tomato sauce or bechamel sauce (optional, for added richness)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for greasing)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven:
    Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Make the Meatballs:
    In a bowl, combine ground meat, chopped onion, garlic, parsley, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well and form medium-sized meatballs.
  3. Assemble the Dish:
    In a greased round baking dish:

    • Arrange the meatballs in a circular pattern.
    • Insert potato slices vertically between the meatballs, as shown in the top image.
  4. Bake (First Round):
    Cover with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 35–40 minutes, until the potatoes are tender and the meat is mostly cooked through.
  5. Add Sauce & Cheese:
    • (Optional) Pour tomato or bechamel sauce over the top.
    • Sprinkle generously with shredded cheese.
  6. Bake (Second Round):
    Remove foil and bake uncovered for another 15–20 minutes, until the cheese is melted and golden brown, as in the second image.
  7. Serve:
    Let it cool slightly before serving. Enjoy with salad or bread!
