Apple Cider Caramel Sauce
INGREDIENTS:
– 1 cup apple cider 🍎
– 1 cup packed brown sugar 🍬
– 1/2 cup heavy cream 🥛
– 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into pieces 🧈
– 1/4 teaspoon salt 🧂
– 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract 🌿
INSTRUCTIONS:
In a medium saucepan, bring the apple cider to a boil over medium-high heat. Then, lower the heat to medium and let it simmer until it reduces to about 1/4 cup, which takes roughly 10 to 15 minutes. Next, stir in the brown sugar, heavy cream, butter, and salt. Bring the mixture back to a boil, stirring constantly to combine everything smoothly. Continue boiling for 4 to 5 minutes while stirring often until the caramel thickens slightly and coats the back of a spoon. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Let the sauce cool for about 10 minutes in the pan before pouring it into a jar or container. It will thicken further as it cools. Store the caramel sauce in the refrigerator for up to two weeks, and gently reheat before serving if desired.
