Ingredients (makes 4 burgers):

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef (80/20 blend works best for juicy burgers)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Β½ tsp black pepper
  • Β½ tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • 4 slices of cheese (cheddar, American, Swiss, or your favorite)
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • 1 tomato, sliced
  • 2–3 tbsp mayonnaise (or your favorite burger sauce)

Optional Toppings:

  • Pickles
  • Onions (raw, grilled, or caramelized)
  • Bacon
  • Ketchup, mustard, BBQ sauce

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Patties:
    • In a bowl, gently mix ground beef with salt, pepper, and garlic powder (don’t overmix).
    • Divide into 4 equal portions and shape into patties slightly larger than the buns (they shrink while cooking).
  2. Cook the Patties:
    • Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat.
    • Cook patties for about 3–4 minutes per side (for medium), or until they reach your preferred doneness.
    • Place a slice of cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking, cover to melt.
  3. Toast the Buns:
    • Lightly butter and toast buns on the grill/skillet for 1–2 minutes until golden.
  4. Assemble the Burgers:
    • Spread mayonnaise (or your sauce) on the bottom bun.
    • Layer with lettuce, tomato slices, cheeseburger patty, and top bun.
