Basic Bread Dough Recipe
Ingredients:
- 3 ½ cups (450g) all-purpose flour or bread flour
- 2 ¼ tsp (1 packet or 7g) active dry yeast
- 1 ½ tsp salt
- 1 tbsp sugar (optional, helps yeast activate)
- 1 ¼ cups (300ml) warm water (about 110°F or 45°C)
- 2 tbsp olive oil (optional, for softness and flavor)
Instructions:
- Activate the Yeast (if using active dry yeast):
- In a small bowl, mix warm water with sugar and yeast.
- Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until it becomes foamy.
- Mix the Dough:
- In a large bowl, combine flour and salt.
- Add the foamy yeast mixture and olive oil.
- Mix until a rough dough forms.
- Knead the Dough:
- Knead on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes (or use a mixer with a dough hook for 5–6 minutes) until smooth and elastic.
- First Rise:
- Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with plastic wrap or a damp towel.
- Let it rise in a warm area for about 1–1.5 hours, or until doubled in size (like in the image).
- Use or Bake:
- Once risen, shape the dough as needed for bread, rolls, pizza, or other baked goods.
- Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25–30 minutes (for a loaf), or as your recipe requires.
