Ingredients:

3 cups (375 g) all-purpose flour

2 tbsp sugar

1 packet (7 g) dry yeast

1/2 tsp salt

1 egg

1 cup (240 ml) warm milk

3 tbsp melted butter or oil

Oil for frying

Sugar for coating

(Optional filling: jam, Nutella, custard, or sweet cheese)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the dough

In a bowl, mix warm milk, yeast, and 1 tbsp sugar. Let it rest for 10 minutes until foamy.

Add flour, salt, egg, melted butter, and remaining sugar. Knead until smooth and elastic (8–10 minutes).

Cover and let rise for 1–2 hours, until doubled in size.

  1. Shape the pastries

Roll out the dough to about 3–4 mm thickness.

Cut into circles with a cup or cutter.

Place a spoon of filling (if using) in the center, fold into a half-moon, and press edges with a fork to seal.

  1. Fry

Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat.

Fry pastries in batches until golden brown on both sides.

Drain on paper towels.

  1. Coat

While still warm, roll the pastries in sugar (or cinnamon sugar).

✨ You’ll get soft, fluffy fried pastries with a crispy sugar coating — delicious warm with tea or coffee.
